Dental Crowns In Henley-on-Thames

Dental crowns are an effective way to repair an injured tooth, and they have several key benefits for your oral health. A crown can make the difference between saving a natural tooth and having it extracted. DNA Henley offers dental crowns at their clinic in Henley-on-Thames. Dental Crowns not only repair damaged teeth, but they also help to restore a healthy, functional, and beautiful smile.

If you’re living with a cracked, worn-down, or deeply discoloured tooth, a dental crown could be the perfect treatment to help you smile, chew, and speak with complete assurance.

What Are Dental Crowns Made Of?

At DNA Henley, we believe in offering choices that best suit your needs, aesthetic goals, and budget. We use only the highest-quality materials to ensure your crown is both strong and indistinguishable from your natural teeth. During your consultation, we will discuss the best option for you.

The most common types of crowns we offer are:

  • Porcelain/Ceramic

These crowns provide the best natural colour match to your existing teeth and are an excellent choice for front teeth. They are highly biocompatible, making them ideal for patients with metal allergies.

  • Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal (PFM)
These crowns offer a very strong, durable bond due to the metal substructure, while the porcelain exterior provides a natural tooth-like colour. They are a reliable option for both front and back teeth.
  • Gold Alloys
Extremely strong and durable, gold crowns are resistant to wear and fracture and are gentle on the opposing tooth. They are often the preferred choice for out-of-sight molars.
  • Zirconia
A modern and popular choice, zirconia crowns are incredibly strong and require less removal of the tooth structure. They offer excellent aesthetics and are suitable for any tooth in the mouth.

What It Involves

Getting a dental crown at DNA Henley typically requires two comfortable appointments spaced a few weeks apart.

Consultation & Examination

We begin with a thorough examination of your tooth, including X-rays, to ensure it can support a crown and check the health of the bone and roots.

Anaesthesia

Your comfort is our priority. We will administer a local anaesthetic to completely numb the tooth and surrounding gum tissue.

Tooth Reshaping

The tooth receiving the crown is carefully reshaped on all sides to make space for the new crown.

Impressions

We take a highly precise digital scan or mould of your reshaped tooth and the opposing teeth. This ensures your final crown will fit perfectly within your bite.

Temporary Crown

A temporary crown is fitted to protect the prepared tooth while your permanent, custom crown is crafted in a specialist dental laboratory.

Second Appointment: Fitting Your Permanent Crown
  1. Once your bespoke crown is ready, you’ll return to our Henley practice.
  2. We remove the temporary crown and clean the tooth.
  3. The new permanent crown is checked meticulously for its fit, bite, and colour match.
  4. Once we are both completely satisfied, the crown is permanently cemented into place.

Quick answers to questions you may have

How long do dental crowns last?

With good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups, dental crowns can last between 10 to 15 years, or even longer. Their lifespan depends on the material used and your personal dental habits.

Does getting a crown hurt?

The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic, so you should feel no pain during the appointment. Some patients experience mild sensitivity or discomfort after the anaesthetic wears off, which is easily managed with over-the-counter pain relief.

How do I care for my new crown?

Care for your crowned tooth just like your natural teeth. Excellent oral hygiene—brushing twice daily, flossing, and using an antibacterial mouthwash—is essential. Avoid chewing extremely hard foods (like ice or boiled sweets) to prevent damaging the crown.

Will my crown look natural?

Absolutely. Our dentists are skilled professionals. We take immense care to match the colour, translucency, and texture of your crown to your surrounding natural teeth, ensuring a seamless and beautiful result.
