Henley Orthodontics
What It Involves
Initial consultation
The initial consultation typically involves a thorough examination of your teeth and jaws. This may include taking X-rays, impressions (moulds) of your teeth, and photos of your face and smile. The orthodontist will then discuss your orthodontic needs, possible treatment options, and estimated costs and timelines.
Orthodontic Appliances
Common orthodontic appliances include:
- Traditional Metal Braces: Made of metal brackets and wires, they are the most traditional form of treatment.
- Ceramic Braces: Similar to metal braces but made with tooth-colored or clear brackets for a less visible appearance.
- Lingual Braces: Attached to the back side of the teeth, making them virtually invisible.
- Clear Aligners (e.g., Invisalign): A series of custom-made clear plastic trays that gradually move teeth.
- Other Appliances: Depending on the situation, other appliances like retainers, palatal expanders, or headgear might be utilized.
Orthodontic Treatment
Treatment length varies significantly depending on the complexity of the case, the individual’s response to treatment, and type of appliance. Treatment can range from 6 months to 3 years, with an average of around 18-24 months.
Active Treatment
This phase involves regular appointments with the orthodontist for adjustments and check-ups, generally every 4-8 weeks. Adjustments involve tightening or changing the wires or changing to the next aligner, to gradually move teeth into the correct position, and monitoring treatment progress.
